Online Meeting: Improving 14 Bridges on I-70
What are the future improvements for I-70?
This project is part of a much larger plan to improve I-70 from downtown Kansas City east beyond I-470. Projects planned in the next few years include:
Starting in 2010, MoDOT will improve the I-70/I-435 interchange adding a third lane of I-70 beneath I-435, providing a collector ramp on the south side to add access from I-435 to Route 40 and replace the Blue Ridge Cutoff (George Brett) Bridge. The project is planned to be complete in 2012.
In 2011, work on east and westbound bridges from Sterling Avenue to Highway 40. This is similar to the work that is being started next summer.
In 2012, MoDOT will resurface a major portion of I-70 at night from State Line to I-435.
MoDOT has completed a planning study on the I-70 corridorand will continue to focus on improvements to this corridor as funding is available.
I-70 is a vital artery that needs repair to continue serving the metro area for the next 50 years. MoDOT understands the critical need to improve this interstate to continue serving Missourians, and the necessity to do it with the fewest impacts to motorists as possible.
