Who Constructs the Bridges?

Safe & Sound program has two components. KTU Constructors were selected to replace 554 bridges at a cost of $487 million across the state of Missouri. KTU also plans to sub-contract a portion of the bridges.

MoDOT and KTU, are committed to engaging citizens throughout the program to solicit feedback, consider ideas, listen to concerns, solve problems, and ensure the public is always up to date.

The Safe & Sound Program has an aggressive plan for the utilization of Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (DBE), Minority Business Enterprises (MBE), Women’s Business Enterprises (WBE), and Missouri-based contractors and suppliers. The local economic benefit includes jobs produced and supported, as well as local expenditures by contractors and crews.

The other 248 bridges to be improved, including more than a 100 completed in 2009, will be contracted using MoDOT's traditional bidding process, where projects are grouped by type, size or location to accelerate construction schedules.
