Why did MoDOT perform an Environmental Study?
The National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) requires Federal agencies to perform a study to identify how a project can inadvertantly affect the environment.
Environmental impact statements (EISs) are prepared in regards to major Federal actions that significantly affect the quality of the human environment. An EIS is a full disclosure document that details the process through which a transportation project was developed, includes consideration of a range of reasonable alternatives, analyzes the potential impacts resulting from the alternatives, and demonstrates compliance with other applicable environmental laws and executive orders.
The Federal Highway Administration has issued its Record of Decision (ROD)on Route 13 Improvements from Lexington to Clinton for the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS). With this notification, the EIS is complete.
