Why is MoDOT doing this project?
Regional growth has exceeded the capacity of the facilities, with over 200,000 vehicles passing through this part of I-70. The roadways and bridges are reaching the end of their life. Maintenance costs are growing too costly.
How does this project benefit me?
Motorists will be able to reach the stadiums from the north, south and west. Replacing the Blue Ridge Cutoff (George Brett) Bridge over I-70 with a wider, broader span will accommodate more I-70 lanes and collector/distributor ramp. Brett Bridge opened in time for the Royals home opener March 31. It provides a 10-foot-wide sidewalk to accommodate more pedestrians more quickly, and the ramps leading to it will move traffic more efficiently and safely.
How is this project funded?
This project is part of the larger I-435 and I-70 interchange project, of which the $32.4 million budget is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The contract was awarded to Clarkson Construction Co.
