Why is MoDOT working on I-70?

I-70 is the major artery of the metro area and across the state. I-70 was one of the first interstates built in the county, and Missouri has not had funds to rebuild this interstate. As a result it has become congested and the condition of the interstate is getting worse every year.

The first step in MoDOT's improvement to I-70 over the next several years starts with these bridge repairs. Built in 1960, these bridge decks are in poor condition. The concrete is cracking and breaking. Maintenance can no longer keeps the decks in good condition by quickly patching potholes and fixing problems as they occur. More in-depth and extensive repairs are needed now to keep the bridges smooth and safe for motorists. Without these repairs, adding a new surface to the bridges will just result in continued pot holes.

With much of the bridge structure in good condition, these in-depth concrete repairs will add decades of life to these bridges.
