At Work

Turn off lights in areas that aren’t being used or when you are the last one to leave a room.
Install motion sensors to turn on lights in rooms that are not used frequently.
Use an energy saving or sleep mode on copiers and other equipment.
Put thermostats on timers to reduce the need for air conditioning and heating during hours when a building is not occupied.
Keep exterior and freight doors closed as much as possible.

At Home

Turn off the TV, VCR, radio or stereo when no one is watching or listening.
Turn off the water when brushing your teeth or shaving.
Activate the “sleep mode” on your home office equipment so they automatically power down when not in use.
Use rechargeable batteries rather than disposables.
Caulk and seal air leaks where plumbing, ducts or electrical wires penetrate exterior walls, floors and ceilings.

Don’t fly or drive unnecessarily for business meetings. Try teleconferencing or e-mailing instead.
Carpool or use public transportation, bike or walk whenever possible.
Accelerate slowly and smoothly. Driving aggressively can lower your car’s gas mileage by 33 percent.
Keep your tires inflated properly. Check the tire air pressure regularly to improve gas mileage.
Refuel in the evening, when the emissions that are released from the gas tank won’t be turned into harmful ozone, causing smog.
